Technical Center

The Institute’s building includes a central, experimental technical area. Here you can find four technical centers with a total floor space of around 1,000 square meters as well as the required storage and cool rooms on the cellar level.

The technical centers are used for both research purposes and practical courses. They are equipped according to the focus of the responsible departments.

For example, in the area of cereal technology and process automatization there are kneaders and a state-of-the-art industrial oven as well as machines for processing and handling plant-based foods including an autoclave. Here you can also find aroma distillation and complete meat processing facilities including smoking chambers with EU food permits. The 2-level technical center “Process Engineering” is equipped with a focus on drying.

In 2017, a modern, software-led sensory lab was established on the upper level in which the sensory evaluation of products is conducted.

The Institute’s workshop is a key component for being able to successfully operate the technical centers - in regard to the maintenance as well as installations and special constructions.
