Mission Statement

The Institute of Food Science and Biotechnology...

  • ... stands for outstanding research in processing plant and animal products into edible, high quality, and healthy food, nutritional supplements, and functional active ingredients

Our teaching and cross-departmental research projects are characterized by natural science and engineering concepts and methods. They highlight the entire value chain of food and the complex interdependencies among ingredients, procedures, and functionality.

  • ... values innovative and high-quality teaching in its Bachelor’s and Master’s programs

The Institute offers one German-language Bachelor’s program and two English-language Master's programs. The Bachelor’s program looks at scientific methods for developing technical processes to manufacture products for the food and health industries. The Master's programs teach students extensive competences in the natural sciences and process engineering with a concentration on the interaction between research and teaching.

  • ... acquires its competences from the expertise of its individual professors, its interdisciplinary work, and the diversity of its subjects

Ten professors and around 100 scientists from the natural science and engineering areas of food science offer high-quality research and teaching across a broad spectrum of the discipline. Modern labs with cutting edge technology and technical centers with pilot facilities ensure a close connection with the practice.

  • ... cooperates closely with other universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutions, and the private sector - nationally and internationally.
