Department of Biotechnology (150b)

The Department of Biotechnology has its research focus on the industrial application of enzyme technology and fungal microbiology. The relevant product areas are fungal biomass, enzymes, proteins, peptides, amino acids, saccharides, fatty acids for use in the food industry.

Research to establish fungal biotechnology and enzyme technology processes is carried out in close cooperation with industrial companies, either with third-party funding or bilaterally. In teaching, the department offers basic modules in biochemistry, biotechnology and advanced modules in enzyme technology, bioreactor technology and overexpression of proteins within various Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the Faculty of Science.
